Development of new vaccines against herpes simplex virus

Development of new vaccines against herpes simplex virus using pseudorabies virus as a vehicle and evaluation of candidate vaccines using an experimental mouse model. In collaboration with the Department of Microbiology at the UAM.

Diagnosis, pathogenesis and treatment of biofilm-associated infections

Evaluation of new technologies for the diagnosis of infections associated with implants, including the evaluation of molecular techniques; sonication of catheters, prostheses and other devices; characterization of the clonality of isolates of prosthetic infection; and study of the antimicrobial susceptibility of biofilms. In collaboration with various national and international centers.

Pathogenesis and treatment of infections caused by rapidly growing mycobacteria

Characterization of biofilms formed by rapidly growing mycobacteria, including evaluation of new treatments, ultrastructural studies, characterization of polyclonality isolates, and clinical studies. In collaboration with national hospitals within the mycobacteria study group of the SEIMC.

Development of new biomaterials of biomedical interest

Development of new intelligent biomaterials of biomedical interest for use in orthopedic pathologies and evaluation of the anti-bacterial adhesion ability thereof; biofilm formation; cell competition studies; antimicrobial loading; functionalization of materials. In collaboration with various national and international consortia.

Evaluation of various proanthocyanidin molecules for the prevention of urinary tract infection in in vitro studies in cells and bacteria and in experimental animal studies. In collaboration with the CSIC.
