Update November 2024

The promotion of clinical research is one of the fundamental objectives of the IIS-FJD, as it constitutes a fundamental tool for the development of new preventive, diagnostic or therapeutic measures, as well as for the identification and resolution of the limitations of established procedures. Among all types of research studies, randomised controlled clinical trials (RCTs) are the best available method for evaluating the efficacy and safety of a new intervention.

Since its accreditation in 2010, the IIS-FJD has worked to promote and encourage quality clinical research, as well as to promote its more efficient management.

To this end, a series of measures have been implemented by the different bodies involved:

From the Scientific Directorate of the IIS-FJD:

  • Attracting talent
  • Establishing active channels of communication with Sponsors in order to get possible study proposals to the attending physicians in a more efficient manner. In this sense, the IIS-FJD is part of ‘Preferred Center’ programmes with several Sponsors.

From the Research Management Area:

  • Promoting active monitoring of clinical trial activity indicators:
    1. Externally, through the participation of the IIS-FJD in the BEST Project since 2013 (https://www.medicamentos-innovadores.org/servlet/medicamentosinnovadores/InvestigacionClinicaProyectoBESTHome.htmlThis link opens in a popup window). This is a strategic project driven by the pharmaceutical industry that aims to unite all the agents involved (both public and private) to create a platform of excellence in clinical drug research in Spain. Its objective is to promote investment in R&D by objectifying and monitoring the situation of clinical research processes in Spain, identifying the different practices and taking consequent measures to improve their efficiency and competitiveness in the field.
    2. Internally, by monitoring recruitment activity and management times in order to identify possible areas for improvement and take action. In this regard, the EN-Health Project has been launched for the use of digital tools to improve the management and development of clinical trials at the IIS-FJD, with the collaboration of all the actors involved.
