Main lines of research


Allergic asthma: Molecular profile, immunoregulation and epigenetic analysis


The main objective of this project is the characterization and validation of discriminatory molecular biomarkers (diagnostic biomarkers) in allergic asthma, and the study of the regulatory mechanisms (therapeutic targets) involved through the analysis of immunology, gene expression, protein expression, and epigenetic mechanisms (methylation).

Asthma is a highly prevalent disease in industrialized countries that accounts for a significant proportion of healthcare resources. An estimated 300 million people are currently affected, and this figure is expected to increase further in the next 50 years, largely due to current lifestyles. This line of research aims to unravel the mechanisms underlying the genesis and evolution of asthma, and to develop diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers.
