Main lines of research
Global Cerebral Hypomyelination
Study of the pathological mechanisms of the disease caused by mutations in Aralar/AGC1 using AGC1-deficient mice. Effects on myelination, formation of brain N-acetyl aspartate, glial synthesis of glial glutamate and glutamine. Involvement of Aralar/AGC1 in other diseases in which decreases in brain NAA are implicated.
Charcot–Marie–Tooth disease
Changes in calcium signaling mechanisms, in particular mitochondrial signaling, in CMT caused by mutations in GDAP and MFN2.
Mitochondrial pathology
- Possible involvement of mutations in SCaMCs in mitochondrial diseases involving deletions in mitochondrial DNA and possible ophthalmoplegia.
- Possible involvement of SCaMC-3 mutations in diseases involving deletion or depletion of mitochondrial DNA in hepatic but not muscle tissue.
Regulation of calcium signaling to the mitochondria and calcium capture by the mitochondria
Role of calcium uniporter and mitochondrial transporters regulated by Aralar/AGC1 and SCaMCs. Role of these transporters in the dysregulation of mitochondrial calcium, mechanisms involved in human pathologies.

Mitochondrial retrograde signaling to the nucleus as a potential target in mitochondrial diseases
